Why codes use steps
Pharmacies price each dose differently, and many offers only apply to some of them. A code for Step 1 works on the starting dose. A code for other steps works on every dose after that.
Step numbers are a short label. The pharmacy checkout shows the dose in mg, so match the step to the dose in the tables above before you pay.
Only a prescriber can decide which dose is right for you. For the full dosing guidance, read the patient leaflet that comes with your medicine or the product information on the electronic medicines compendium.

No. Each medicine goes up one step at a time so your body can get used to it. Your prescriber can keep you on a step for longer, or move you back down if side effects are hard to manage.
Do I start again at Step 1 if I change pharmacy?
Not usually. You can stay on the step you are on, or move up to the next one, if the new prescriber agrees. If you have missed doses, the prescriber may ask you to go back a step.
